Profhilo – Key points about the 2019 approach to this antiwrinkle treatment

PROFHILO

Does your skin feel dehydrated, dull, tired and lack of volume and elasticity?

If so, Profhilo is the facial rejuvenation treatment for you. From the age of 30, your skin begins to lose a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA) – all exacerbating the signs of ageing.  Profhilo is made of hyaluronic acid which gives your skin a huge hydration boost, whilst improving the overall tone and texture of your skin with natural and subtle results.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is the first injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) based product for treating skin laxity and crepiness. It is a skin remodelling treatment designed to rejuvenate your skin, giving you a refreshed and luminous glowing complexion.

This treatment will stimulate the production of collagen and elastin with a slow release of HA which significantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

It has one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market and it works by not only boosting and hydrating the skin, but also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue. The attraction to Profhilo is that it does not change the face shape like dermal fillers, it creates a fresh natural look and softening of fine lines and wrinkles. So, the advantage is that you don’t look ‘done’.

Profhilo delivers great results as a treatment on its own or in combination with other aesthetics treatments currently on offer.

How does Profhilo work?

As a stabilised product Profhilo lasts in the skin around 28 days. During this time the Profhilo stimulates of 4 different types of collagen and elastin in the skin by slow release of HA. The stimulation results in significant tissue improvement such as significant tightening and a lifting effect on the tissue.

Profhilo is unique because there is no BDDE content. It is thermally cross-linked generating stabilised hybrid co-operative complexes of H-HA and L-HA. Despite having high levels of HA, it does not cause inflammation and causes the skin to heal. In addition, due to the chemical cross-linking compounds, there is an increased stability of HA to enzymatic and mechanical degradation.

The treatment procedure

The procedure is really straight forward.

At your initial consultation, the facial aesthetic practitioner will check for your suitably and for any medical contraindications. The good thing about Profhilo is that there are not really any upper age limitations and there are very few contraindications as the procedure is minimally invasive.

Your skin is cleaned before injecting the collagen-boosting liquid into five key points on your face, starting with each side just next to the ears, then on to the nasolabial fold (laughter lines around the mouth), chin, under the eyes and on the tops of cheeks. The Profhilo is placed into each side of the face.

The procedure creates an unpleasant stinging sensation which lasts around 20 seconds. So, before you know it, it’s all over. With no visible traces of having multiple injections, there is no downtime required so you can get straight back to your daily chores!

Results are visible after only 2 sessions 4-6 weeks apart. Treatment results last for up to six months.

Which areas are treatable with Profhilo?

Profhilo is especially effective at treating loose skin in the neck, cheek and jowls as well as other areas usually considered difficult to treat with injectable products, such as the:

  • Temples
  • Lines around the mouth and chin
  • Forehead
  • Hands
  • Upper arms
  • Neck chest and décolletage

Complications

As with any injectable treatment there are minor risks, including bruising and swelling, as well as infection, allergic reaction, vascular compromise and nerve damage; although IBSA (the pharmacy that makes Profhilo) claims these are rare.

Profhilo lumps

There is a risk of bumps/lumps at the entry points and bruising as well but the probability of this is very low, most people leave the surgery without the slightest sign of having just had a needle go into their face 10 times.

Is Profhilo worth it?

In a nutshell, Profhilo is not just good, it’s marvellous! And it is currently taking the beauty world and facial aesthetic and injectable treatments by storm. Simply everyone is doing it. Honestly, it’s moving Botox to the side and it’s swiftly taking over the dermal filler’s crown.  It is the ultimate pick-me-up and makes you look tons better and it’s the choice of facial aesthetic treatment for anyone over 30 who’s ever thought they need to go on holiday for a rest. Except it’s better than looking well rested; the result is a radiant, healthy, slightly plumper looking glow that takes a good few years off your face.
